Robert Fougner

Developing global skills.

Robert Fougner, Arts and Science (Commerce) Alumnus

Robert Fougner realized his dream when he went to work for global social media company, Hootsuite. He wanted to do something he believed in. With the business skills he learned at Langara, he can work anywhere in the world.

Langara recruited Robert from high school to play basketball for the Falcons. He enjoyed the small class sizes, and found Langara to be much less expensive than university.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the foundation that I got from Langara. As a student athlete, I was able to pick my course schedule to work around playing basketball. I took courses in the summer term to spread the load, and tried a variety of subjects which helped me find my niche in marketing.”

Robert earned a Diploma in Commerce, and felt very prepared for UBC where he completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree.

After graduation, Robert discovered his skills were in demand globally. He worked in New Zealand marketing a mining company, travelled the globe working for a travel agency, and finally returned to BC.

Robert landed a job at Hootsuite Media Inc, where he specializes in social relationship platforms for educational institutions.

“This is my dream job. Hootsuite is a great company… everyone here is very driven. I knew I wanted to be in sales, but was determined to sell something I believe in. Selling social media protocols to institutions of higher education is something I can get behind.”
